Death of Pierre Vayret (Marie’s father).

The year 9 November 1684 Mr. Pierre Vayret, Sieur of La Jarrige, was buried at our church at Brageac at the age of 63 years. From le Pradel of Brageac. Hedied the 8th. By me the undersigned priest.

Regarding numbers one says:60=soixante,70=septante, 80=septante, 90=nonante, as they do in Belgium today.
The place called “Pradel” was located at the entrance to Brageac coming from Ally. See the map.
The word “les” or “lès”still exists to indicate that the town or the place depended on another town.


The marriage of Pierre Garcelon and Marie Vayret.

The year 4 September 1685 after the engagement and publishing the marriage bans three different times at our recommendations at the parish masses. Be it known the 10th and 12th day of the month last June, thee first and third Pentecost holidays, and the 10th of September of the same month on a Sunday that between Pierre Garcelon, about forty years of age, natural and legitimate [a feu] Francois and Marie Serre of the village of Tarrieu, parish of Ally on one side and Marie Vayret aged twenty-five years undersigned with said Garcelon, fatural and legitimate [a feus] Pierre Vayret, Sieur of La Jarrige and Miss Jeanne de Douhet from the le Pradel of Brageac. Not having found any impediment neither in our parish nor in the one at Ally according to the declaration of said priest from there. I the undersigned priest of Brageac assisted at their marriage with Louis Vayret, Sieur of Lafont, the said bride’s brother, the undersigned Monsieur Jean Garcelon, priest of Tarrieu, the undersigned nobleman Francois de Pestels, knight, Sieur Deler and [of/from] La Vayssiere, Antoine Diernat, son of Monsieur Jean Diernat from here and undersigned and Jacques Vayret, brother of said bride.
Following are the signatures of : Pierre Garcelon, Marie Vayret, Deler (meaning Francois de Pestels), Diernat, Louis Vayret, Jean Garcelon and Vincent the priest.


Francois Garcelon died 2 November 1679 at Tarrieu of Ally: document n° 243 and n° 391.
Marie Serre died 4 October 1689: document n° 242 and 391 int he Ally register.
The Lafont place is a forgotten one (as is la Jarrige). At that place we have fun into the person who has the key to the church at Brageac and who has explained the problem to us.
On the map it’s the place between le Pradel and Brageac, the two spots between the roads.

Pierre Garcelon’s baptism at Tarrieu

He was born the 24th of this month. On 27 September 1686 Pierre Garcelon, legitimate son of Pierre Garcelon and Marie Veyret, his wife from the village of Tarrieu, was baptized my me, the undersigned vicar. A godfather (A) Antoine Garcelon from this place Ally undersigned, a godmother Gilberte Veyret from Brageac who said she didn’t know how to sign.
(A) who carried said child there and with the name Monsieur Pierre Garcelon, a priest in the diocese of Perigueux, brother of the said Pierre Garcelon.
Following are the signatures of : Antoine Garcelon and Bergoin, the vicar.

This is the transcript of the second birth certificate.
The Garcelon signature are different. One might think that the second birth certificate was written at a different time.


A baptism at Tarrieu

Marguerite GARCELON was born and was baptized my me the undersigned priest on 17 September 1708, natural and legitime of Jean GARCELON and Catherine MAISONNEUVE, godfather Monsieur Pierre GARCELON, bachelor in civil law from the village of Tarrieu, parish of Ally, the undersigned, the godmother Marguerite FONTANGES of said Ally who did not know how to sign this required by me, the undersigned priest.
The following signatures are: of Pierre Garcelon and of Leconet, priest from Ally.


Marriage in Ally

Photo n°778 in the Ally register After having published two bans and having seen the dispensation for the third marriage ban between Eymeric Lavergne, natural and legitimate son of another Eymeric Lavergne and of Antoinette Boudie from the village of Chameyrac, parish of Barriac and of Antoinette Garcelon, natural and legitimate daughter of Pierre Garcelon and [de feu] Marie Veyret from the village of Tarrieu. The permission of the priest from the said Barriac was obtained previously. The other ceremonies in the church and the declarations of his majeste duly observed, I , the undersigned priest gave them the nuptial benediction in the church of said Ally the 21 August 1710, in the presence of said Pierre Garcelon and Eymeric Lavergne, fathers of said bride and groom, Sir Pierre Garcelon, acolyte, brother of said bride, Jean Garcelon, undersigned from said Tarrieu with the said bride and groom, the said wife declared she did not know how to sign what was required by me, the undersigned priest. The following signatures are : the lst signature is not identified, Pierre Garcelon, junior, Pierre Garcelon, senior, Lavergne, Jean Garcelon (priest at Tarrieu), ant Leconet, priest at Ally.

Pierre Lavergne was born 20 August 1712 and was baptized the following day by me, the undersigned priest. He was a natural and legitimate son of Eymeric Lavergne and Antoinette Garcelon, and the godfather was Pierre Garcelon, the undersigned from the village of Tarrieu, Ally parish. The godmother Margueritte Boudie from the village of Chameyrac, Barriac parish, did not know how to sign her name.
The following signatures are: of Pierre Garcelon and Leconet, the priest.

This has to do with the signature of Pierre Garcelon, the father of Pierre and Antoinette.
Traditionally the grandfather and grandmother of the first born child were named godfather and godmother.

Jeanne Garcelon, natural and legitimate daughter of Jean Garcelon and Catherine Maisonneuve was born on 18 February 1716 and was baptized the 20th by me, the undersigned vicar. Godfather was Pierre Garcelon, priest from Ally, and godmother was Jeanne Fontanges of said Ally, who did not know how to sign this (document) requested by me.
The following signatures are: Alardier, vicar of Ally and Pierre Garcelon.
